Photo Study: Nativity Scene

c>log
This is an intentionally vintage looking nativity scene, which is a depiction of the birth of Jesus as described in the gospels of Matthew and Luke. The term nativity scene usually includes the two dimensional depictions shown in film, painting, printmaking, and other media. However, in the history of art and culture, as well as in popular use, the term also refers to a static, a three dimensional, an artistic, commercial or folk art diorama. This is an image of such a diorama.

Nativity scenes exhibit the figures representing the infant Jesus, his mother Mary, and Joseph. The other characters from the nativity story such as shepherds, the Magi, and angels are typically displayed near the manger in a barn. A donkey and an ox are typically depicted in the scene, as wall camels belonging to the Magi. Have a Merry Christmas and thanks for visiting!
