Photo Study: The Artist At Room Temperature

c>log
This is part of a self-portrait project that was shot in 1990 on Kodak Professional TRI-X 400 Film (TX135-24) film with a trusty and very fast f1.2 50mm lens mounted on a Minolta XGM. This image is intended an expression of the concept of vanitas, which is a Latin phrase that means "emptiness" and loosely translated corresponds to the meaninglessness of earthly life and the transient nature of vanity.

In these type of images the artist is free to use artistic license to interpolate memento mori into the work. Memento mori is a Latin phrase which means very simply "Remember you will die". It names a genre of artistic creations that vary widely from one another, but which all share the same purpose: to remind people of their own mortality and the punishment they will receive if they transgress the rules of their religion. Thanks for visiting and please come back often!
