Here is a short summary of what went down at today's Let's Rock Event hosted by Apple in San Francisco. Steve Jobs, of course, is presiding over the event and at the beginning of today's presentation the screen behind him read, "The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." A huge round of applause followed. So here you go – the new goody list for the upcoming holiday season. Ready! Set! Click!


 

iTunes 8 Summary of New Features
  • iTunes 8 will be available as a free download today on Apple's website.
  • iTunes 8 will now support HD TV shows.
  • Improved accessibility technologies (Built-in VoiceOver etc.).
  • New feature called Album Browsing (view albums by their cover and artist).
  • New feature called Genius. It will assemble playlists from songs in your library with one click.
Updates to the iPod Product Line
  • iPod Classic now comes in a new thin version. 120 GB for $249 (30,000 songs).
  • iPod Nano has a larger screen and is a bit taller. Thinnest iPod ever made.
  • iPod Nano has the accelerometer and a new interface. Create Genius Playlists on the fly.
  • Shaking the iPod Nano will shuffle the songs.
  • iPod Nano now boasts of being able to play 24 hours of music and 4 hours of video.
  • iPod Nano is the most environmentally friendly iPod to date.
  • iPod Nano now comes in purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink and silver.
  • The Nano now comes with headphones with a built-in inline remote.
  • The cost of the iPod Nano is now $149 for 8GB and $199 for 16GB. Ships today.
  • iPod Touch now looks a lot like the iPhone and is thinner than last iPod Touch.
  • Nike + iPod is now built-in to the iPod Touch.
  • The iPod Touch now can play 36 hours of music and 6 hours of video.
  • iPod Touch priced at 8GB for $229, 16GB for $299 and 32GB for $399. Ships today.
New Apple Music Accessories
  • Armband.
  • New headphones with built-in remote.
  • New in-ear headphones (2 woofer and tweeters on each side). Cost $79.
  • Free upgrade from Version 2.0 software on iPod Touch to Version 2.1 software.
iPod News
  • 73.4% market share according to NPD Data.
  • 5,000 iPod accessories on the market.
  • 90% of U.S. automobiles now have iPod integration.
  • Cumulative iPod sales are now over 160 million.
iPhone News
  • Software update to Version 2.1. Fixes a lot of bugs and dropped calls.
  • The new software is free to all iPhone owners.
App Store News
  • Users have downloaded over 100 million apps in just 60 days.
  • App Store now contains over 700 games.
  • Apps are available in 62 countries.
  • New games reviewed: Spore Origin, Real Soccer 2009, Need for Speed Undercover.
