The Theme From Shaft

Who's the black private dick
That's a sex machine to all the chicks?
SHAFT!
Ya damn right!

Who is the man that would risk his neck
For his brother man?
SHAFT!
Can you dig it?

Who's the cat that won't cop out
When there's danger all about?
SHAFT!
Right On!

They say this cat Shaft is a bad mother
SHUT YOUR MOUTH!
I'm talkin' 'bout Shaft.
THEN WE CAN DIG IT!

He's a complicated man
But no one understands him but his woman
JOHN SHAFT!

Isaac Hayes is seen by many contemporary musicians as a major influence on their work. He is known as a pioneer in the genres of disco, soul, rap and urban comtemporary music. A self-taught musician, Hayes started working as a staff musician for the legendary Stax Records in the early 1960s and his first paid gig was with none other than Otis Redding himself in 1964. A prolific songwriter, Isaac Hayes penned over 200 songs at Stax Records and his own 1969 solo album Hot Buttered Soul hit Number 1 on the Billboard R&B charts and had a stay on the charts of over 10 weeks.
