Shea Stadium Concert Full Of Surprises
c>log
It was late Friday night at Shea Stadium in New York City. The people had gathered for a Billy Joel concert which was to be the last concert staged at Shea before it is demolished. Billy Joel gave the audience a terrific concert that covered his entire career and as the show approached the three hour mark when a surprise guest appeared on stage – it was Sir Paul McCartney!
The former Beatle treated the crowd to a spirited rendition of "I Saw Her Standing There" with Billy Joel singing the backup vocals. Before starting "Let It Be" Sir Paul reminisced about the Beatles first American concert held at Shea Stadium 43 years ago on August 15, 1965.

“It’s so cool to be back here on the last night,” he said. “Been here a long time ago — we had a blast that night, and we’re having another one tonight.” Sir Paul McCartneyWhat a night this was though, because Paul McCartney was not the only special guest at the concert – Garth Brooks, Steven Tyler and Roger Daltrey also performed for the very lucky crowd of 55,000. Garth wore a Mets t-shirt and sang Billy Joel's "Shameless." Steven Tyler performed "Walk This Way" and Roger Daltrey gave a rocked out version of "My Generation" while Billy Joel smashed a guitar on the center field stage. Wow! The Piano Man gave sang us one last song to remember as the end of an era came upon the historic stadium.

“I want to thank the Beatles for letting us use their room,” he said after playing “She Loves You.” “The best band that ever was, the best band that ever will be.” Billy Joel
