Pop Culture For Sale
c>log
The Pop Culture Auction at Christie's was held on June 25 in New York City. The auction kicked off with a bath robe from Tony Soprano, courtesy of James Gandolfini. It is the same robe as worn in the pilot episode of The Sopranos. And, Tony Soprano really cleaned out his closet this year, offering a total of twenty-five outfits for sale. In fact, all items from the famous/infamous mobsters sold very well. Believe it or not, the fake-blood soaked clothing worn by Tony Soprano when he was shot by Uncle Junior in Season Six even sold at the auction block. It should be noted that the proceeds from the Sopranos items were to the benefit of the not-for-profit Wounded Warrior Project, an organization for soldiers wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq. The plain manila envelope from The Sopranos contained the sum of $187,750.
A Pop Culture Auction couldn't take place without something from the King of Rock 'n' Roll – Elvis Presley. Mostly, the items consisted of some clothing items from the King's double-sized walk-in closet. There were other items from Elvis as well such as a poster, a cane, an Elvis written essay and a diamond encrusted sheriff's badge. But the catch of the day, without doubt, was the sale of Elvis' black leather Harley Davidson motorcycle jacket with the initials EP sewn into the inside. Very cool, man!
Other items were
available for sale too. Items from Louis Armstrong, The Who and Led
Zepplin did well for their owners at the auction. Here is a brief list
of some of the more interesting items sold at the Pop Culture Auction. The total sales for the Pop Culture Auction at Christie's (including buyer's premium) was a grand total of $759,438 US Dollars.
