Irvine Robbins, co-founder of the Baskin Robbins ice cream empire died Monday in Rancho Mirage, California. Mr. Robbins was 90 years old. He and his brother-in-law each started an ice cream store after World War II in the Los Angeles area. Mr. Robbins had a passion and the talent for creating unusual ice cream flavors that helped America discover the ice cream beyond chocolate and vanilla. Baskin Robbins is now an iconic brand name. The stores started with just 21 fllavors but soon expanded to include the famous Baskin Robbins 31 flavors – a new flavor of ice cream for each day of the month.
