Rest In Peace: Egg McMuffin Inventor

c>log
The man who invented the Egg McMuffin, Herb Patterson, has died at age 89 in Santa Barbara, California. The Egg McMuffin was created in 1972 as a way to introduce breakfast fare at McDonalds restaurants. Herb liked what he did so well he eventually became a McDonalds franchise owner with six outlets in California.

Mr. Patterson began his career as the Vice-President of McDonalds ad agency, D'Arcy Advertising, in Chicago. He is the adman credited with the creation of McDonalds first national advertising slogan, "Where Quality Starts Fresh Every Day." It is said that the Egg McMuffin was inspired by Herb Patterson's love of eggs benedict. Think of all the portable breakfast products available to the consumer today – Herb Patterson was the pioneer.
